Project Life Week 9

Sometimes I have scrapbook supplies , paper, project life cards or embellishments, that I think that I will never use.  At first I didn't particular like the "Yay" project life card but I had this week off work so I thought it summed up my feeling pretty well!

Won a lovely coffee maker

On the 18th February I got an email saying that I had won a NESCAFE DOLCE GUSTO Coffee Machine, a Cappuccino cup set & a box of After Eights. This was a competition run by After Eights on their Facebook page. I was thrilled to win as I had been wanting to buy one of these for a while now but could not justify the cost.

Sarah's Cards February Challenge

This is my layout for Sarah's Cards February Challenge.  I used the American Crafts Dear Lizzy Neopolitan range which I absolutely love.  I hand sewed the circle and butterflies on.  I am not a natural sewer but I love the look of stitches on layouts and want to try more out on my layouts.

Project Life Week 7

Decided to give this week a red/pink and heart theme, what with it being Valentine's Day on the Friday.

A return to comping

After many years of not entering any competitions I have decided that I really miss the thrill of winning and sometimes not knowing what the postman will bring.  So since just before Christmas I have been entering about 400 a month which is not much compared to what some "compers' do but I don't really have the time to enter more.  Therefore I only got my two wins last week.  The first a lovely coffee maker which has not arrived yet and the second a surprise jiffy bag from L'Oreal containing a mascara, key ring, magnet and Iphone case.

I think they had 200 to give away in total.  I know it is only a little prize but it was still lovely to receive.

Project Life Week 6

I love how some embellishments and cards just symbolise the week.  The weather was truly awful this week and our car died so I thought the "Keep calm and smile on" pretty much summed up my mood.  Luckily though I had a lunch and a dinner with friends on the friday so that cheered me up so I called it "Eat Cake Friday" and found a great flair button with a slice of cake on!

DIY Flair Buttons

I am still on my quest to make some flair buttons that look nearly as good as the ones you can buy but a fraction of the cost.  This time I used some recycled badge fronts that I found on ebay.

I selected some scraps of paper and found a large button to draw round that was bigger then my badge.

I cut the circle out then placed the badge top in the middle and drew round that.  Then I cut a fringe around the edge and cut up towards the inner circle but stopping just before I reached it.  Cutting a fringe will allow me to manipulate the paper easier around the badge for a neater finish hopefully.

Using a tiny dob of Glossy Accents I attached it to the badge and bent the fringe over, tucking it into the rim of the badge as best I could.  Then I found a sticker to go on the front.

Using tweezers I dipped the flair into PVA glue and left it to dry for several hours.  When it dries nice and clear and glossy it kind of resembles a flair button.  I was quite pleased with the result, so made a few more.

Valentine's Card

I am quite new to making cards and I do not do many, but thought I would make the effort this Valentine's Day.

Project Life Week 3

So far I am managing to keep up with my Project Life album.  Although we have not done an awful lot as the weather has been truly appalling and this year we would like to save our money and buy things for the house.

Paper covered embellishments from counters

Embellishments are so expensive here in the UK, especially the ones that go with the paper collections so I thought I would try and make my own.  I thought about using buttons but I find these can be too bulky in my project life albums so I wanted something a little flatter to use.  I came up with the idea of using counters and luckily I had an old jar full of them!  So using some different size counters and the scraps I had left from a Simple Stories Christmas collection I gave it a whirl.

I cut out a circle of paper big enough to cover the counter and fold over.  Then i glued the counter to the middle of the paper.

Around the outside of the paper I cut little grooves in and manipulated the paper with my fingers back and forth to break down the paper fibres so that it was easier to fold over.

I glued around the outside of the paper and folded it around the counter as tight as I could to form the shape of th counter.

I repeated the procedure with each one of the counters.  I am happy with the way they have turned out and think that next time I will try with fabric.

New Years Day

It was a miserable start to 2014 - hardly stopped raining all day!

Have decided to return to Comping this year as well as doing Project Life scrapbooking.  Also want to make a start on my children's scrapbooks.  Would like to try and make my own scrapbook embellishments to save some money.
